Why Your Own Insurance Company May Work Against You After a Crash

Video Transcipt

If you have a car accident in Maryland, and you have to make what’s called an Uninsured Motorist (UM) claim, or at some point you have to make an Underinsured Motorist (UIM) claim for your car accident case, they don’t treat you that much better. They insure you, and they don’t insure the person who caused the accident—but it really doesn’t matter at the end of the day.

Whether it’s the other driver’s insurance company or whether it’s your insurance company with a UM or UIM claim, their job is the same: to delay the process, to interfere, to make bad-faith settlement offers, and to make you frustrated.

So, one of the things we have to explain to our clients is: just focus on getting better. See great doctors, make sure they’re hearing you—just get better. This case will take some time, but if you see high-quality doctors and you get better, the case will take care of itself.

We have another saying in our office: ‘If the patient wins, the case wins.’ And I truly believe that. If you are getting better and you go through the process and heal—whether you get 100% better or whether there are some lingering issues—if you see those medical doctors, your case will take care of itself, and you will be satisfied with that settlement at the end of the day.
